Kizomba is one of the most popular dances that originated from Angola. It is known for having a slow, insistent, somewhat harsh yet sensuous rhythm as the result of electronic percussion. It is danced accompanied by a partner, very smoothly, slowly and sensuously, and with neither tightness nor rigidity.
There are frequent simultaneous hip rotations coordinated between dance partners, particularly in the quieter refrains of the music.
The origins of kizomba can be traced to late-1970s Africa, with influences variably attributed to Angola. Kizomba is characterised by a slower, romantic, more sensuous rhythm. Kizomba music emerged as a fusion of Semba, Angolan Merengue, Kilapanga and further Angolan music influences.
This depends entirely on the individual but we do highly recommend that everyone finish the 8 weeks Foundation Classes to get a proper understanding of the Kizomba technique & connection before moving on to the improvers classes. Not only is Daniel a passionate instructor, but he also infuses the classes with gentle explanations, great beginner techniques and practical explanations also.
Absolute beginners are welcome. Like most new things you try, it will take a bit of time before it becomes second nature but our classes are well structured, which makes learning easy and fun. You will start from the basics and build up your foundations and all the cool steps and styles.
Wear something comfortable. No need to wear special dance shoes, however, avoid shoes with excessive grip on the soles or high heels. As this is a close-connection dance. The flat shoes are the best to start.
